Premium Member Categories

Over and above the conventional membership, ESSSR offers higher education institutions interested at and active on matters related to sustainable development, the opportunity to join ESSSR via a Premium Membership.

Premium Membership is structured into two distinct categories, allowing your institution to select the option that best reflects its strategic priorities.

To provide a clear overview of the different levels of engagement and associated benefits, the table below presents a structured comparison of all membership categories:

1) Research Support Membership (EUR 2,000/year)

Designed for institutions primarily interested in academic collaboration, research visibility, and participation in scientific activities. This membership offers the opportunity for up to two representatives of the member institution to co-author two academic papers with our Head of School, Prof. Dr. Walter Leal and/or our Executive Directors. Our team develops the initial concept for each paper, invites suitable co-authors, and appoints an experienced, hands-on corresponding author to guide the writing process and support submission to a leading academic journal.

Additional benefits include:
  • Two full conference registration waivers, plus a 50% discount on additional registrations;
  • Opportunities to host and organise events, in person and online;
  • Mentoring sessions on papers, projects, and events;
  • Priority partnership in journal articles and thematic leadership in publications;
  • Workshops, seminars, and mentoring opportunities;
  • Limited public visibility;
  • And much more!

2) Project Proposal Support Membership (EUR 5,000/year)

Designed for institutions seeking a more strategic role, including active involvement in international project development, funding applications, and leadership in large-scale research initiatives. Project proposals are the core focus of this membership, with publication, networking, event, and capacity-building opportunities offered as additional benefits. Backed by more than 15 years of experience and over EUR 100 million mobilised in research funding, the Centre has a strong track record in project development — including our latest approved Horizon Europe project, “Europe Land,” selected under the call “HORIZON-CL5-2022-D1-01-03-two-stage: Social science for land-use strategies in the context of climate change and biodiversity challenges.” As a result, this membership provides comprehensive support throughout the proposal-development process.

This tier includes all the benefits of the Research Support Membership, plus:
  • Participation in project preparation;
  • Support for project proposals and bids;
  • A leadership role in international project bids;
  • Fee waivers for project applications (up to 2/year);
  • Full public visibility.

General terms

Both memberships are offered on an annual basis and may be renewed for subsequent years upon confirmation of continued interest; a renewal reminder will be issued approximately two months before the expiration date. Membership may be terminated with one month’s written notice. Invoices for the annual membership fee are issued by HAW Hamburg.
