World Sustainable Development Teach-In Day 2022

A Global Movement to enhance the SDGs

7 December 2022 (Wednesday) – Venue: Online

** Call for Expression of Interest now available here

The World Sustainable Development Teach-In Day (WSDTID) is a decade-long global movement that aims to raise and spread awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) – the universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. We hold this event on the first week of December every year.

In 2022, our theme is “Implementing Sustainability at Higher Education Institutions: the Contribution of Green Offices”. This year we focus on the contribution of Green Offices to integrate sustainability initiatives within higher education institutions. No matter how they are formally called (Green Offices, Offices of Sustainability or Office of Sustainability Services), they provide an invaluable assistance towards ensuring that matters related to sustainable development at universities are not only pursued systematically, but also in a continuous way.

The WSDTID will be held in parallel to the World Symposium on Green Offices (WSGO). Papers submitted to the Symposium will be later published in the book “Supporting the Integration of Sustainability Initiatives in Higher Education: the role of Green Offices”, part of Springer’s “World Sustainable Development Series“. You can find more information on the Symposium here. The WSDTID’s main feature is that it is an Open Access event, which facilitates networking and knowledge transfer within a truly international, digital learning environment.

In this WSDTID edition, presentations shall be held in English and designated as Open Educational Resources (OER). We invite university staff and students from all over the world to  are encouraged to partake in this global sustainability movement related to the theme of “Green Offices”.

To participate, submit your information via our Call for Expression of Interest

About the event:

The WSDTID is organized by the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) and the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP), affilliated with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and Manchester Metropolitan University (UK). Key partners include the University of Passo Fundo (Brazil) and Federal University of Santa Maria (Brazil).

In 2021, presentations were held in 3 different languages: English, Portuguese or Spanish. Thematically, they were bundled in three key dimensions – people, planet and prosperity. The lectures kicked off with the Official Opening Ceremony with Prof. Walter Leal from HAW Hamburg (Germany) and the Keynote “The World in 2050 – Finding Pathways to a Sustainable Future” by Christopher Wingens of the German Development Institute. Altogether, the event was attended by almost 500 participants.
